Director of Officiating Announced - Sam Najmeddine

The NJHL is proud to announce the first member of its executive team - Director of Officiating, Sam Najmeddine. Sam is a highly experienced and dedicated hockey official with an impressive 38-year career in officiating and involvement in various developmental programs. "I am honoured and grateful for the opportunity to build a comprehensive Officials Program that welcomes and supports all officials in their quest for success."

The NJHL is thrilled to have Sam on board for its inaugural season, as his presence ensures the highest level of professionalism in officiating. Sam plans to assemble a senior crew of officials who are equally enthusiastic about working with young athletes in the league.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Sam was a talented multi-sport athlete. However, it was during his later years of playing hockey that he decided to transition into officiating. This allowed him to stay involved in the game he loves and compete at the highest levels. Despite being 56 years old, Sam embraces the challenge of keeping up with the young athletes on the ice. He takes pride in creating a safe environment where they can grow both as individuals and athletes, preparing them for the next phases of their lives.

Beyond his passion for officiating, Sam also serves as a member of the Edmonton Police Service, a role he has held for 22 years. Officiating hockey during his spare time has not only helped him maintain a high level of fitness but has also allowed him to forge lifelong friendships within the hockey community.

When he's not on the ice or working, you can find Sam enjoying leisure activities. He particularly enjoys golfing, playing an impressive 50-60 rounds per year. Alongside his partner Bonnie, Sam also spends quality time at the lake with their two dogs, Obi Wan Kenobi (Obi), a Black Lab, and Cheeko, a Red Merle Chihuahua. As his children have grown up, these moments of relaxation provide him with much-needed tranquility and joy.

Stay tuned for further information from Sam regarding league playing rules and disciplinary policies. Officials interested in being part of the NJHL officiating crew can contact the league.
